We have great employees and volunteers that keep the mission going.

Our mission is to fight hunger by engaging, educating and empowering our community.

Permian Basin Mission Center Painting

The Permian Basin Mission Center is a place where a West Texan in need of food or clothing can get some immediate help, but it’s also a place that can give people the keys to escaping poverty.

“We like to think that we just don’t give them fish. We teach them how to fish. We talk about savings. We talk about applying for food stamps, how to get free legal assistance to apply for child support. And then we talk about whether they’re in need of rent and utilities,” said Executive Director Hank Herrick.
The Christian-based nonprofit takes a lot of pride in the clothing it provides in a setting that looks right out of a mall. And thanks to generous donors, visitor in need won’t spend a cent.

“We’re happy to give out the clothing for free, and we do screen the clothing to make sure that it’s something we’d give to our own families,” said Herrick.
Healthy food, respectable clothing, and assistance that can help West Texans down on their luck achieve a better life are all obtainable at the Permian Basin Mission Center, but it wouldn’t be possible without a generous community.

If you’d like to help out by donating your time or money to the center go to our Financial Donations Page and give a one month gift or monthly support.

United Way of Odessa holds Day of Caring!

Picture
The United Way of Odessa and volunteers went out to three different organizations today just to lend a hand with improving their facilities.

Today was United Way of Odessa's Day of Caring bringing together united way staff, volunteers, and other organizations together to do a good deed to help improve the facilities of three local organizations, one of them being the Permian Basin Mission Center.

"It's very important that we perform a service," said Christina Escobar, Executive Director of United Way Odessa. "We want to be out in the community and serving, but it's very important to those organizations because they can help improve their facilities but yet still serve those clients that are coming and really desperate and needing help.”
Even if it’s something as simple as repainting a part of the building, it means the world to the organizations being helped by United Way.
To them, it shows that they’re willing to help in more ways than just funding.
“I think it’s a testament to the United Way of Odessa and their caring for the community," said Hank Herrick executive director of the Permian Basin Mission Center. "It’s one thing to fund agencies at almost a million dollars a year over sixteen agencies, but it’s another one when they gather up volunteers and they come out and say ‘we don’t just want to fund you, we want to help you.’”
The other locations United Way had groups visit today were the Odessa Boys and Girls Club and the Salvation Army.
